A TREASURY OF MEDICAL ABBREVIATIONS by Dr Muhammed Rafeeque

Dear friends,

While I was doing my graduation, I visited my home during our college vacation. It was the time when my maternal uncle was admitted in the hospital due to the complications of Diabetes. So my relatives asked me to have an interaction with his doctor, just to know his health status and prognosis. Next day, I visited the physician’s cabin and introduced myself. When I asked about my uncle’s heath status, he said: “It’s a case of ESRD, so there is little hope ”. I had no courage to ask him, “What is ESRD?” So, I nodded my head as if I have understood everything. That time, Internet was not so popular; hence I had to refer so many books to learn that my uncle was having End Stage Renal Disease. As a medical student, this was excusable, but when we start our practice as a doctor, such abbreviations (at least the commonly used ones) should be familiar for us, because the medical reports, books, articles, and even our patients use these abbreviations very commonly!

TONGUE IN DISEASE AND REMEDIAL DIAGNOSIS By Dr Muhammed Rafeeque, BHMS.

The tongue (Lingua, Glossa) is a muscular organ in the oral cavity that is associated with the function of deglutition, taste and speech. It acts as an easily accessible mirror of the health of a person, and indicates the state of hydration of the body. Some characteristic changes occur on the tongue in some abnormal conditions or diseases. Hence, the examination of the tongue is very essential and will provide some hints for the clinical and remedial diagnosis.

AN OVERVIEW ON AUTOIMMUNE DISEASES By Dr Rahees K Kokkallur

AN OVERVIEW ON AUTOIMMUNE DISEASES
By
Dr Rahees K Kokkallur
All wars are against Humanity. If a war started in human body it is called autoimmune diseases. The Body has its own Immune system to fight against the germs, pathogens and organisms that attack body. But what will occur when this immune system, that is the soldiers of Human body attack tissues and cells?, autoimmune disease is such a state.  Auto immune diseases are first identified by a Japanese researcher Hashimoto Hakaru. He found the autoimmune nature of thyroiditis and it is called as Hashimoto thyroiditis. The latest studies are shown that many diseases which have called as unknown etiology, has a connection with autoimmune mechanism. Many researchers close their research work with adding a new disease to the list of autoimmune diseases!

SAMPLE HOMEOPATHIC CASE RECORD

Homoeopathic treatment is determined by looking at the whole patient as a unique individual rather than categorizing his or her illness based on symptoms that are similar to those of other patients. According to homoeopathic thought, the body's symptoms of illness are an expression of the body trying to heal itself and should not be suppressed. This individual expression of symptoms is of utmost importance in determining homoeopathic prescriptions, since the remedy must perfectly match the symptoms.
The first step in homoeopathic treatment is obtaining information about the disease, or taking the case. One has to be observant and objective. Words used by the patient are generally better indicators of the symptoms, so it is better not to interpret, but to note down the same words.
