ACONITUM CAMMARUM

Botanical name:

Aconitum cammarum Linn

Synonyms:

Aconitum decorum Reichh, Aconitum ealtatumBeruh

Occurance and distribution:

Europe, especially in Hungary.

Homoeopathic medicinal prover:

Roots.

Chemical constituents:

Aconitine, indaaconitine, mesaconintine, neoline, songramine, deoxyaconitine, hypoacontine, aconine, ephedrine. Roots containing

vit-c and starch.

Description:

It is herbup to 1 m in height. Root globular, tuberous. Leaf with short, bluntish lobe, deeply cut but not to the base having larger undivided area and with broader segments. Inflorescence usually branched, few flowered, terminal raceme or panicle or loose spike, somewhat short and nearly like laterals. Flowers purple, blue or reddish, variegated or white. Sepals deciduous, helmet hemispherical or wedge shaped, closed; petals with inflexed or hooked spur. Fruit a follicle; seeds 3 angled, angle not winged.

Cultivation and collection:

Aconitum cammarum prefers moisture retentive soil in shade; plants will also thrive in a sunny position if the soil is sufficiently damp throughout the growing season. Propagate by division when dormant; by seed sown under cover in spring. Remove dead flower heads to encourage a second crop of flowers. Plants are lifted in autumn and young, thick roots are removed before replanting.

Preparation:

a)    Mother tincture                                         drug  strength 1/10

Aconitum cammarum in coarse powder                           100 g

Purified water                                                                 350ml

Strong alcohol                                                                685 ml

To make one liters of mother tincture.

b)      Potencies:2x to contain one part mother tincture, 3 parts purified water, 6 parts strong alcohol. 3x and higher with dispensing alcohol.

Non Homoeopathic action:

·        Toxicology:Numbness and tingling in the mouth, abdominal pain, vomiting, purging, tremor, occasional delirium,dyspnoea ending in syncope.

Homoeopathic action:

·        Patient is indifferent, disturbed thought and power of concentration, weak memory.

·        Fear of death.

·        Face blackish-blue, lips blue and swollen; sensation of contraction of face.

·        Taste and sensation diminished. Excessive salivation.

·        Paralysis of tongue and sensation of crawling.

·        Headache aggravated by bending body forward.

·        Burning in abdomen and sensation of crawling round in it.

·        Violent eructations, inclination to vomit without vomiting.

·        Voice becomes hoarse and rough.

·        Respirations slow difficult. Pulse frequent slow irregular and intermittent.

CHARACTERISTICS.

• In metals, mental symptoms are concomitants.
• Symptoms develop gradually or suddenly rise up and come down gradually. Sycotic background -> Syphilitic state.
• Pain, very high intensity. Progress is slow. Relief is gradual. Constant dull continuous pain maddening type of pain. Patient becomes neurotic with pain. Pain < touch. Pain > Hard pressure, > tight bandage.
• Useful in acute exacerbation of a chronic condition.
• Opposite states as a result of toxic effects of metals. Initially hyperactive state of system (because of rejection by the system) which is seen as < touch, hyperesthesia. But finally leads to destruction. Highly irritable, excitable, hysterical (plumb, plat.). Hopefulness with Hopelessness of despair (Aurum)
  Hyperactive state is very short. But hypoactivity is very prolonged.
• Patient desires abnormal things and those things which aggravate.
• Desires: Stimulants, raw food, pica (Alum, Stann)
  Aversion:- To good nutritious food.

  Stool: Paresis and paralysis. Constipation++. Hard, dry, ball like stools.
  Perspiration: Profuse, copious. No amount of perspiration ameliorates. Perspiration-stains, offensive. 
  Urine: Tenesmus , paralysis, paresis. Affection of sacral plexus. 
  Paralysis of lower part of body (Thallium)
  Involuntary stool and urine ++ (If involuntary elimination due to weakness: carbon, acid group)
