A short note on MIASM

Introduction
It is one of the cardinal principles of homoeopathy. Defined and explained by a number of homeopaths, both new and old, still, unexplainable and ambiguous. Hahnemann introduces this concept after along and tiresome research and this concept gives us an opportunity to compare and contrast basic theories of life, health and disease. Of various medical systems, and rational explanations for many of questions asked by both homoeopaths and non homoeopaths
Though we consider Miasm as the basis of all human nature it has the width and depth to contain more than that. every Miasm has both positive as well as negative aspects, when the positive elements predominates the Miasm will act creatively on a human nature to form well respected and world renowned personalities, again when the negative elements predominates, they form the most contempt and the most spiteful personalities that we see around. Each of the 3 miasm is seen in an individual in different proportions, but the personality of that person depends upon miasm which predominate upon him at that time.
Master Hahnemann has classified Miasm as:
- psora
- sycosis
- syphilis
PSORA
Appearance
- She has a constitution, which is neither too fat nor too thin.
- face has an appearance of inverted pyramid
- very bright eyes
- small head
- hair is apt to be thin, dry and lusterless
- unhealthy skin
Excitable
- they are mentally very active and quick
- they are easily affected by slightest mental impression
Sensitive
- They are sensitive to all impression such as odour of flowers, smell of cooking food, atmospheric changes, bad news, joy, etc.
- they are mentally disturbed easily
Fearful
- Easily frightened by trivial things - fear is always associated with trembling and copious perspiration.
- Fear of death, illness, or that their case is hopeless
- Fear of labour, of dark, of being alone, of strangers.
Thoughts and ideas
- Free outflow of thoughts and ideas.
- There may be a passionate craving or indulgence to obtain unnecessary object and aims and they tend to build castles in the air.
- They are mentally very alert and are quick and active in their motions.
- they will work like 'Trojans' for a short time, but they become fatigued easily- both mentally and physically
- they will not carry their thought and ideas to proper end, they tend to switch ideas or drop their work half done
- hence they can not achieve large goals or aims in life
Anxiety
- Anxiety especially on morning.
- Anxiety when ill, thinks that his disease is going to be fatal.
- anxiety about anything and everything
- they become dizzy and faint in a crowd , when they meet strangers, or when any unusual ordeal is to take place
Anger
- they easily fly to passion and in anger they tremble with rage
- in one moment they are angry and the next moment they weep and become repentant
Chronic complaints
- they never satisfy with the present condition of life
- always fault finding
- They always complaints about their health, yet quite unable to locate their trouble.
- Torment their friends with their trouble.
Open minded, extroverted
- speak out his mind , even about his future
Restless and unsatisfied
- never satisfied with exciting state of things
- he think he is not rich enough and tries to acquire more wealth
- never satisfied with his married life and seek gratification from other women
SYCOSIS
Appearance
- they tend to grow fat and obese
- their face is round with chubby cheek
- eyes are dull
- Their head is large with curly hairs.
Personality
- They are fat people, who are indolent and prefer sedentary type of work.
- they are closed people, who will not reveal his thinking to others
Suspicious
- He won't easily trust his friends, also he won't dare trust him self.
- He is suspicious over things he has done, of what he said, and also broods over things he did.
- He is suspicious that he is misunderstood, go back and repeats what he meant , recheck everything what he has done and said
Jealousy
- he is jealous of his friend, others prosperity , post and hence he want to acquire more money and position
Secrecy
- He has a peculiar tendency for making a secret of everything- about what he thinks, about his plans, future etc.
- he also thinks that others are also mentally same and are trying to keep things from him
Quarrelsome
- Has a great tendency to harm others - at the same time he try to preserve his image.
- he is cross and irritable and they easily tends to get into fits of anger but he never do it publicly, he does it privately ( never loose his temper in front of public )
Cunning
- He is very cunning and mischievous of all miasm.
- He will take all the possible means to attain position and prosperity.
- but also he will keep his image clean - he is a liar
Selfish and avarice
- he will do everything to achieve personal gain and comfort
- he is avarice and conserve money
Fearful
- he is very fearful about his image in the society hence he will keep his image clean
- he often have a dual personality , he will cover all his negative feeling and action and will project a clean image before society
Thoughts
- since he is quite jealous and selfish mentally he always want to attain high position in society
- so he will always try to engage in such job that often have high status in society
- he will lay definite plans and work tremendously hard and will adopt all possible means to attain his goal – and he often become successful in it
Criminal Tendency
- Sycotic criminals will do the crime after well planning
- He never leaves any clue that will trace back to him.
- they tends to become a well planned professional killers
SYPHILIS
Appearance
- They are often very lean and emaciated.
- They tends to have a very large head compared to rest of body
- Eyes are very sharp with penetrating look.
- Hair- they often have loss of hair especially on the frontal region
- Face- wrinkling of forehead especially looks prematurely old.
Personality
- They are hyper energetic individual – like a candle that burns both ends
- They radiate energy, and they are often very active and energetic
- And hence they will also exhaust their energy very easily and end up crippled at a very early age
- They are destructive in nature - they do things that disrupt social setup, always any thing that do not fit with in the social good looking frame and hence they are often not acclaimed during their life time
Fearless
- They are very fearless they do not care what society think about them
- and hence he will take the path that was not traveled before and their thought may sound 'crazy to the society'
Bold
- He is very bold and daring and together with his hyper energy, he is bond to attain goals in a short period, which a common man cannot do in their life time.
Impulsive
- He will do things impulsively with out thinking, he will not have a flickering of thought before destroying the 1000 years old social set up
Fixed ideas
- They have fixed ideas and thinking and it is not very easy to win them over or to change their ideas.
- they will stick to their ideas and they are not easily influence able
Destructive tendency
- destructive tendency is very marked through out the miasm
- They are destructive to themselves – after exhausting their excess of energy.
- they can either destroy them selves ( suicide) or they may fall into fatal destructive disease like cancer or they become idiotic because of destruction of the brain
- they are destructive to others – tendency for violence, great tendency to hurt others
- they can easily destroy the concept of others and society
Anger
- they easily explodes to anger and they explodes it publicly
- In anger they may show destructive tendency like destroying things and other violent activities
Thoughts
- Their thoughts and ideas are "odd" when compared to age old concept of society
- they often take lonely path that are not often walked before and attain its heights at a very short period
- they are " genius " – who are not bothered about the society and they receive acceptance only years after their lifetime
Criminal Tendency
- In negative side, they have a great tendency towards criminal side.
- Since they are impulse they often indulge in alcohol drugs, sex etc.
- Their impulsive nature and fearlessness can also convert them to cold blooded murderer
